Trading platform Robinhood has announced the launch of its Web3 wallet on the Apple App Store, bringing it to iOS users in over 130 countries.
The multi-chain, self-custody wallet was previously only available via a waitlist, but can now be accessed without delay. The Android version of the wallet is scheduled for release later this year.
Since its beta launch in September, the Robinhood Wallet has integrated Ethereum and added support for Polygon, along with 50+ ERC tokens for buying, selling, and holding.
Among the tokens supported are USDC, UNI, MATIC, and SHIB, which can be traded without transaction fees. Users can also use these cryptocurrencies to interact with decentralized applications (Dapps).
Robinhood Crypto general manager Johann Kerbrat noted that the addition of Ethereum and ERC-20 tokens came in response to customer demand for access to more coins and tokens on multiple chains.
Since its launch, Robinhood Wallet has also added a non-fungible token (NFT) feature for collecting and storing favorite collectibles on Ethereum and Polygon.
Although the Robinhood Wallet is self-custodied, there are various self-verification methods available to provide security to its Web3 users.
Users can set up Face/Touch ID or a custom PIN, and create a secret recovery phrase, also known as a seed phrase, for accessing their wallet and crypto.
Robinhood has recommended users back up their wallet by writing it down, storing it offline, or saving it in a secure manner.
However, some users have expressed concerns about storing seed phrases on iCloud. A Reddit user called “StamInBlack” highlighted this issue, while others expressed unrelated reservations about the trading platform.
