Decentralized finance (DeFi) data website DefiLlama has become embroiled in a leadership dispute after a single team member attempted to launch a crypto token without wider approval.

The controversy has led to the creation of a second, almost identical, site at llama.fi, and allegations of a “hostile takeover.”

The dispute centers on a team member identified only as 0xLlam4, who is reportedly attempting to launch the token against the wishes of the wider team, due to a lack of site revenue.

While 0xLlam4 controls the DefiLlama website and its Twitter account, other team members cannot directly prevent this outcome.

0xngmi, another team member responsible for development and salaries, has publicly expressed concern about the proposed token launch, which he said was being carried out without approval.

Tendeeno, another team member, corroborated 0xngmi’s concerns, adding that just one individual was behind the token launch.

The situation has left DefiLlama divided, with two separate sites now operating. Both sites offer a leaderboard tool that lists various DeFi projects and displays the total amount of crypto locked in those projects.
