Recently, more and more companies around the world have started including Bitcoin in their balance sheets as a long-term plan to increase their value. MicroStrategy, a company based in the U.S., is at the forefront of this trend.

They have gathered more than 628,000 BTC, worth almost $72 billion, which is much higher than their yearly software revenue of $463 million. MicroStrategy started buying Bitcoin in 2020 to protect itself from inflation, which encouraged other companies to do the same.

One of these companies is Japan’s Metaplanet, which has bought more than 17,500 BTC. Another is Trump Media & Technology, which recently acquired 18,430 BTC for over $2.1 billion after raising money through stock and bond sales. Some other important holders are Coinbase, Riot Platforms, and Tesla.

In Poland, two gaming companies that are publicly listed, Ice Code Games and Immersion Games, have shared their plans to change their financial strategies to focus on Bitcoin. Ice Code Games has received a €1 million investment to begin building its Bitcoin reserves. The company aims to use this digital asset to change its business direction after experiencing losses for several years.

Immersion Games, which has not made a profit since it started in 2021, plans to invest €1–1.5 million in Bitcoin at first. They hope to increase their holdings to €50–100 million, using money from convertible bonds. The company plans to keep these assets for a long time using cold storage options from trusted custodians such as Coinbase Prime and Fidelity.

This strategy does come with some risks. Buying Bitcoin when prices are high can result in big losses if the market goes down, and using debt or new shares to pay for these purchases can add more financial stress. Security issues, like the chance of losing private keys or dealing with cyberattacks, along with changing crypto rules in Poland and the EU, make things more complicated.

This method lets investors get involved with Bitcoin without actually owning the crypto, which might provide some tax benefits. But, options such as the new Polish BETA ETF or funds from PZU might offer similar exposure, along with management fees.

The success of the Bitcoin treasury strategy depends on increasing BTC prices. For example, when Bitcoin fell by 30% earlier this year, MicroStrategy showed a loss of $5.9 billion. However, it later recovered and gained $10 billion.
