On December 31, Luke Dashjr, a Bitcoin developer and core developer, announced that someone had hacked into his PGP (Pretty Good Privacy) key, which is a security technique that requires two keys to access encrypted data, and stolen nearly 200 bitcoins.
Dashjr revealed a wallet address allegedly connected to the theft, where four transactions totaling 216.93329199 BTC (worth approximately $36 million at current prices) were made on the same day.
Dashjr had previously tweeted that his server had been hijacked in November and that he was looking into it.
Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao (CZ) has responded to the incident, offering to freeze any BTC that may have been stolen and sent to the exchange, as well as his support to Dashjr.
CZ mentioned that Binance often deals with these types of situations and has established relationships with law enforcement worldwide.
