The Venezuelan government has implemented a digital embargo on prominent online sites, such as the cryptocurrency exchange Binance and the social media network X, as part of a wider effort to suppress digital services.

The disturbance, documented on August 12, 2024, is ascribed to the government-controlled internet service provider CANTV. Binance’s website and mobile application became unreachable in Venezuela as a result of a DNS block, which is thought to be connected to the government’s increased investigation of crypto trade in the nation.

Binance has confirmed the blockade and reassured its Venezuelan consumers that their cash are safe under the company’s strong security protocols. CANTV has implemented restrictions on access to various prominent platforms, including Reddit, Signal, and X.

The obstruction of X is particularly remarkable in light of the recent hostilities between Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and the proprietor of X, Elon Musk.

Maduro has said that Musk is utilizing X to provoke demonstrations linked to the contested outcome of the presidential election, characterizing these efforts as a component of a US-supported endeavor to undermine Venezuela’s stability.
