Among them, the Input Endorsers protocol has garnered significant attention due to its potential to greatly boost the network’s transaction processing speed.
However, a recent dispute between a respected crypto researcher and the Cardano community has ignited debates about the network’s true capabilities.
Renowned crypto researcher Justin Bons recently turned his critical eye towards Cardano’s scaling efforts, particularly focusing on the Input Endorsers protocol.
Bons suggested that while this mechanism could theoretically enhance Cardano’s speeds to approximately 2000 transactions per second (TPS), it might fall short when compared to other blockchain platforms.
Bons’ comments stirred controversy within the Cardano community, with some members questioning his credibility. Others argued that the traditional TPS metric was irrelevant for Cardano, emphasizing the network’s emphasis on Outputs Per Second (OPS) instead.
Amid the heated debate, Bons revisited his initial calculations and acknowledged discrepancies in IOHK’s self-reported TPS figures.
He recalculated a more precise estimate, suggesting that Cardano’s TPS could reach speeds of up to 400 TPS, which drew further attention and discussion.
The Cardano community remained divided on the issue, with some dismissing the TPS metric as overly simplistic. They argued for alternative metrics like OPS to provide a more accurate representation of the network’s capabilities.
While the TPS debate raged on, influencers like Cardano Yoda stepped in to clarify the situation. Cardano Yoda pointed out inaccuracies in Bons’ calculations, highlighting that the researcher had vastly underestimated the size of Cardano’s transactions.
By comparing Cardano’s transaction model to Algorand’s, Cardano Yoda illustrated that Input Endorsers would significantly reduce transaction data, potentially allowing speeds of up to 1,500 TPS.
Cardano Yoda further noted that this number could double if Cardano chose to increase input block sizes, potentially reaching 3,000 TPS.
Some Cardano developers went even further, estimating a 400x increase in TPS, which could result in a maximum TPS of 30,000.
