Google and Qualcomm have joined hands to transform the Android experience by integrating Google’s Gen-AI models into more Android phones featuring Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor.

This move, announced during the launch of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, signifies a significant advancement in on-device AI capabilities, promising Android users a plethora of new features, improved performance, and enhanced power efficiency.

The key innovation in this collaboration is the utilization of Qualcomm’s cutting-edge Hexagon NPU for AI models from Google.

As part of this partnership, Google’s Pixel 8 Pro will be able to offer on-device AI experiences, including features like on-device recorder summaries, Smart Reply in Gboard, and the forthcoming Video Boost feature.

This integration allows the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 to serve as the canvas for Google’s AI models to execute on-device AI tasks.

This not only paves the way for new possibilities but also ensures that AI capabilities extend beyond Google’s Pixel series.

Users can look forward to a multitude of fresh features, performance enhancements, and substantial power savings resulting from the collaboration between Google and Qualcomm.

Alex Katouzian, Qualcomm’s Senior Vice President and General Manager of Mobile, Compute, and XR, discussed this significant advancement.

He pointed out that Google is at the forefront of deploying generative AI models on Snapdragon. According to Katouzian, Google’s research team has spent months refining their next-generation large language models to seamlessly fit on mobile devices.

This effort aims to empower users to engage in a broader range of on-device activities using Google applications, marking a significant leap in mobile AI capabilities.

During the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 launch, Dave Burke, Google’s VP of Engineering for Android, emphasized the impact of this partnership.

The collaboration underscores Google’s commitment to advancing on-device AI capabilities while reducing reliance on internet connectivity and cloud servers for complex AI models.

This translates to smarter and faster AI processing on upcoming Android flagship phones featuring the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor.

In simple terms, the user experience on premium Android phones is set to receive a substantial upgrade. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor offers support for large language models with over 10 billion parameters, operating at an impressive rate of almost 15 tokens per second. This development promises a seamless and efficient AI experience for users.
