Astar Network, a smart contract platform for multichain, announced the launch of its Cross-Virtual Machine (XVM) on the public testnet Shibuya.

Astar Network claims that the XVM allows for interoperability between different smart contract environments such as the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) and WebAssembly (WASM).

This allows for seamless communication between smart contracts, regardless of the language they are written in or the environment they are in.

This is the first major product launch as part of Astar Network’s 2023 roadmap, and it is expected to open up new possibilities for cross-chain projects and experimentation with the XVM developer toolkit.

Additionally, the firm stated that the launch of XVM will enable developers to tap into user bases and assets across multiple smart contract environments, rather than being limited to just one.
