CDK Global, a software provider for automotive dealerships, made a payment of $25 million in Bitcoin to resolve a ransomware assault that caused disruption to software operations at around 15,000 dealerships in the United States.
The attack was attributed to the BlackSuit ransomware organization, which has specifically targeted multiple US companies since 2023. CDK Global sent 387 BTC to an account associated with the gang, who promptly transferred the monies to centralized exchanges.
According to a Bloomberg story, CDK Global intended to make a payment in order to prevent the leaking of data. Last Thursday, CDK said that almost all of its 15,000 dealership clients had regained online access.
The ransomware industry is growing, enticing new participants because of the possibility of substantial earnings and few obstacles to entrance. According to reports, Black Basta obtained a minimum of $107 million in Bitcoin through extortion, a significant portion of which was transferred to the Russian crypto exchange, Garantex, which is subject to sanctions.
