The prosecutors investigating former FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried have reportedly requested information from top members of the Democratic Party about the political donations made by the entrepreneur.

The United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York sent an email to the Democratic Party’s elections lawyer Marc Elias, as well as other members of the Democratic and Republican parties, asking for details on the donations.

Bankman-Fried was arrested in the Bahamas on December 12 on charges of financial and election fraud related to the alleged siphoning of $1.8 billion in customer funds.

He was the Democrats’ second-largest individual donor, having contributed $39.8 million. In response to the allegations, three prominent Democratic groups have decided to return donations linked to Bankman-Fried, totaling over $1 million.
