DEAR, a fully on-chain game incubated by ARPA Network, has officially launched on the Redstone Mainnet. Designed to transcend the traditional limitations of gaming through the creative use of blockchain technology, DEAR challenges players to nurture, influence, and ultimately shape the life of a digital entity through interactions by transactions.

ARPA Network, renowned for its cutting-edge cryptographic systems, has introduced DEAR to transform blockchain constraints into unique storytelling and gameplay elements. In DEAR, routine blockchain actions such as connecting wallets, sending tokens, and executing transactions are woven into the game’s narrative, enriching the player’s experience with depth and immersion.

Redstone, launched on May 1st, provides a robust foundation for DEAR, with its innovative architecture designed explicitly for on-chain games and autonomous worlds. Engineered from the ground up by the Lattice team in collaboration with Optimism, Redstone leverages advanced features such as an automatic MUD indexer and blazing fast edge RPCs, ensuring exceptional performance critical for real-time interactions in on-chain gaming.

Moreover, Redstone’s cost-efficiency is unparalleled. Unlike traditional optimistic rollups, Redstone utilizes a system where only a data commitment hash is posted to Ethereum L1, significantly reducing the L1 security cost by more than 90%. This approach not only minimizes fees but also upholds stringent security and data availability through a permissionless challenge system, enabling users to verify data integrity and ensuring a secure, transparent gaming environment.

As ARPA’s first foray into fully on-chain games, DEAR is not just a game but a social experiment and a piece of interactive art. The game’s mechanics, crafted directly from blockchain capabilities, explore the composability and extensibility of smart contracts as well as the intricate relationships between individuals in the blockchain ecosystem. Features such as collaborative competition, a finite lifespan, and a mechanism for double-spending/infectious tokens emphasize the innovative fusion of virtual pet simulation, abstract art, and blockchain technology.

Felix Xu, CEO of ARPA, shares his insights on the project: “DEAR was conceived to explore how blockchain can be leveraged to create not just games but environments where collaborative and competitive dynamics can flourish. This project underscores our belief in blockchain’s potential to revolutionize gaming and the foundational aspects of digital interaction.”

About DEAR

DEAR is a smart-contract-based creature living on-chain. It challenges players to nurture, influence, and ultimately shape the life of a digital entity through interactions by transactions. DEAR’s mechanisms are naturally grown out of the blockchain, exploring not only the composability and extensibility of smart contracts, but also the relationship between people through the medium of blockchain. DEAR is ARPA Network’s first attempt to build a fully on-chain game (FOCG).
