The construction of the first nuclear-powered data center in the United States to host Bitcoin mining services has recently been completed by Cumulus Data, a subsidiary of independent power producer Talen Energy.
The 48-megawatt, 300,000-square-foot data center is connected to the Susquehanna nuclear power plant in Pennsylvania and will host Bitcoin mining and cloud computing services.
The data center is expected to welcome its first tenant and commence commercial operations this year.
The company also plans to develop two more data centers in phase 1 of the project, with a planned aggregate capacity of 475 megawatts.
The use of nuclear power for Bitcoin mining is considered an environmentally friendly option, and the company is focused on providing zero-carbon, low-cost, and reliable electricity to data center customers.
