Santos FC, one of Brazil’s top football clubs, has announced that it will extend the use of its fan token to a Web3 and metaverse-enabled “gaming environment.”
The Santos Fan Token, or SANTOS, was launched in late 2021 and is now set to partner with TOPGOAL and Binance’s fan token arm.
According to an official release from TOPGOAL and a report from Livecoins, the partnership will allow for the “joint development of a Football Meta Club and Footballcraft,” which is a “virtual football world” that features “x12” time acceleration.
The developers claim that this is similar to The Sandbox and will be incorporated into TOPGOAL Footballcraft in Q3 of 2023.
In addition to this, Santos FC fans can play TopManager, which is touted as the world’s “first Web3 3D football game.” By playing the game, fans can win rewards including the TOPGOAL governance token, GOAL, which will elevate the Web3 gaming experience for fans.
The Santos FC partnership with TOPGOAL will also enable the club to create and sell its own branded non-fungible tokens (NFTs) on the Binance NFT marketplace. As of writing, the SANTOS coin’s market cap is $28,695,907, and the token’s price is up around 5.5% in the past 24 hours.
The Santos FC partnership with TOPGOAL and Binance’s fan token arm highlights the potential for football fan tokens to be used beyond the traditional scope of cryptocurrency.
By expanding into the gaming industry, Santos FC is leading the way for other football clubs to diversify and offer new opportunities for their fans and investors.
