David Schwartz, the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Ripple and one of the original designers of the XRP Ledger, discussed his ideas for an EVM sidechain back in September.

His plan was to make it possible for Ethereum smart contracts to be executed on the XRP Ledger (XRPL), lowering the entrance requirements for developers.

On October 17, Peersyst announced that it has released the first phase of the EVM sidechain for the XRPL now live on XRPL Devnet.

The XRPL ecosystem has moved one step closer to reaching this objective as of late. Peersyst has finished implementing and publishing the initial stage of the EVM sidechain for the XRPL on the XRPL Devnet, according to Mayukha Vadari of RippleX Developers.

This allows developers to use the widely used Ethereum programming language, Solidity, and bring it to the XRPL.

As Vadari argues, numerous benefits come from the bridge between the EVM sidechain and the XRP Ledger. Vadarisaid that many crypto developers today choose to build on Ethereum or EVM-compatible chains because of the popularity of Solidity for programming smart contracts and a robust ecosystem of available developer tools and decentralized applications (DApps).

Furthermore, he added that, on the other hand, the XRPL appeals to developers because of its speed, low cost, sustainability, and other features.
