Mexico City, Mexico, November 28th, 2023

Palm Foundation, the nonprofit supporting creative projects built on Palm Network, has issued a series of residency grants for creative artists. 20 grants will be offered through the Momentum-Lagos Artist Residency Program which will be jointly hosted in Berlin and Mexico City respectively.

Despite operating on opposing continents, Lagos and Momentum host exchanges between the two institutions to support artist residencies in Berlin and Mexico City. For 2024, this program will be opened to international artists and curators of any nationality or country. The expanded initiative has been made possible through partnership with the Palm Foundation which will provide grants and technical support for the artists in residency to explore the possibilities that blockchain technology brings to creators via the Palm Creator Collective.

20 artists will be eligible for grants of up to $750 apiece during the course of 2024, effectively offsetting the costs of their residency in Berlin or Mexico City. To be eligible for a grant, artists must commit to creating 3-5 NFTs as part of their residency project.

Technical assistance for NFT minting will be provided by the Palm Foundation and artists will retain all the intellectual and commercial rights to their work. They will also be given a choice of commercial platforms should they wish to sell their NFTs.

The partnership between Momentum-Lagos and the Palm Foundation will support the professional development of artists invited to participate in a residency. It will furnish them with the ability to work with NFTs, integrate these into their work, and to embrace the creative opportunities provided by digital technology.

Artists accepted for the Momentum-Lagos Residency Program have the freedom to create work using any medium of their choice. Project proposals will be assessed on the basis of their socio-political relevance and their relation between identity and community. Applicants should complete the online form at  https://www.artelagos.mx/lagos-momentum and submit their CV and short bio. Artists will be informed within four weeks if they have been selected for an online interview to advance to the final stage of the selection process. The artist who chose to in addition mint 3-5 NFTs will be eligible to receive the Palm Foundation Grant.
